Trailer Process • Bloopers & Outtakes from Day 1 of Filming

Filming was lots of fun but it did take a few takes to get a range of shots that allowed me to have a choice of takes when it comes to editing. I've created a gag reel type behind the scenes footage sequence from the first set of filming I did.

Trailer Process • Makeup & Costume Behind The Scenes Day 1

Here is a Photoshow presentation which I screen recorded to show the makeup and costume that took place on my first day of filming.

Trailer Process • Planning Filming Day 1 According to Weather

It was crucial to have good weather and lighting for my filming, so to make sure that I had the right amount of sunlight and a good colour for my camera's shooting mode that would work with my chosen shots and angles, I did a small test on some still shots to see how it would look. If it suddenly started to rain I did have a back up location inside where the scenes requiring a black backdrop could be filmed for the time being.

Planning • Scene Ordering and Time Schedule

The filming will be done by myself, and I will be downloading the videos onto disks and memory sticks during the internal studio shoots for the poster and magazine cover. This is so I don't waste time downloading during my photography.

TUESDAYS RUNNING ORDER:
My plan for the shots will be as followed:

These shots I still want to film, but can't do on my main filming day because of the studio not having what I need and them being specific to another location.
  • EXT. Flowers on a grave
  • INT. Her emerging from the bath and going in the water
  • INT. Pan of Emmas bedroom
  • INT. Baby video
  • INT. Dom tearing through Emma's room looking for anything and not finding it. He looks lost stood in the center of the room.

Planning • Studio Lighting and Framing Ideas

I had a really clear idea of what I wanted to achieve with my protagonist's hair, using the idea of supernatural force and wind to blow her hair. I also really wanted to use candle light and look at how that gave a creepy effect to the lighting and how it helped the face in the shot. To prepare for the difficulties of this working on the day, I used the studio to practice on myself to gain a sense of understanding how this would work on my own actor Emma.

I tested out my silhouette in a mirror to look at how darkness can help create a creepy effect, then used the idea of back lighting on my test shots. These two photos show how I used certain areas of my body to create a small element of mystery and looked at how the rule of thirds and centering worked for my photos.

Planning • Risk Assessment Sheet

When thinking about my location I had to plan what risks may occur when filming and using my chosen location. I had to consider what could be a potential problem and how I could over come this. I have included an image of my filled out risk assessment form.
Luckily the locations I have chosen are very safe and contained and I will be with the owner of the space on the day of filming as health and safety to oversee and take precautions. The studio has a fire extinguisher so any chance of a fire will be quickly taken care of, there is phones and internet access if help is required and there are neighbouring shops and areas where people could be reinforced if anything got out of hand.

Here are the three biggest and most likely risks that could occur:

Luckily having adult supervision, a fire extinguisher, a first aider and a first aid kit minimised a lot of the potential risks and problems that could occur.

Planning • Production Schedule (When, Where, Who?)

My production schedule is going to be more challenging since I am using a professional studio to do a lot of my work, as although I have a small cast number I have to organise them around when they are both free and when I can access the studio. I am lucky to be using real professional actors but that does mean that I will have to fit around their busy working schedules.

Planning • Prop List (What will you need and why?)

For my film the use of props shall be fairly minimal, however to keep it authentic I will be using some minor (small) objectives to add someting to the trailer. The props I have chosen are all handheld so they are easy to manage and co-ordinate.
All these props are needed to help my actors react to emotional scenes but keep within the horror genre. I'm trying not to make my film overly conventional as I think this could lose a lot of important themes from the plot, but using blood, lighting and other obvious signifies to the genre will help my audience identify my genre.

Planning • Inspiration for Editing Style

To explore the use of different editing techniques I looked at how Sinister and American Horror Story  use jump cuts, fast pace and camera angles to create a disorientating and confusing effect to give the audience a feeling of being self aware.
